Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne completed a dream double at Brands Hatch to be crowned the Monster Energy King of Brands and with it take the lead in the 2017 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship.

An incredible battle opened the day as Byrne denied Dan Linfoot his first BSB victory as the Be Wiser Ducati rider stole the lead with two laps to go before the race had a premature end due to changing conditions.

Behind them in third was Leon Haslam (JG Speedfit Kawasaki), as Australian duo Josh Brookes (Anvil Hire Yamaha) and Jason O’Halloran (Honda Racing) crossed the line in fifth and seventh respectively.

Come race two it was Byrne who won more comfortably with a margin of over five seconds to James Ellison (McAMS Yamaha) and Christian Iddon (Tyco BMW), with O’Halloran claiming P7 again.

Brookes was in the battle for victory until he crashed out of second position on lap nine, while it was also a mixed result for Billy McConnell (FS-3 Racing Kawasaki) with 17-16 finishes.

In Supersport Benjamin Currie (Gearlink Kawasaki) claimed a ninth and seventh, in Superstock 1000 Sam Clarke (Pacedayz Trackdays Yamaha) went 20-24-19 as teammate Brayden Elliott crashed out of the weekend in part one of the endurance race and in the Ducati Cup Levi Day went 15-4.

Round seven of the BSB series is scheduled to take place at the fast Thruxton circuit in Hampshire on 4-6 August.
