Kawasaki BCperformance ASBK rookie undergoes surgery.
Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) presented by Motul Pirelli rookie Kyle Buckley has his sights firmly set on returning for Morgan Park as he recovers from a broken ankle that was operated on last week.
Buckley sustained the injury in the topical incident with Daniel Falzon (Caterpillar JD Racing Yamaha) at Hidden Valley earlier this month, but remains hopeful that he will make the Queensland round on 25-27 August.
“They plated the bones back together and I’ve got an appointment with the surgeon in about 10 days,” Buckley told CycleOnline.com.au. “He’s going to take the cast off that I’ve got on now and hopefully I’ll be in a moon boot. I won’t be at the test, but it’s looking good for the race, so I can get it into a boot and jump back on then.
“Obviously it’s going to be pretty hard to get good results after not riding for that long and probably with a pretty sore ankle, but it’s looking good at the moment. I’ll know more once I see him in case any further problems come up, which they can. The plan at the moment anyway is to ride.”
After missing out on the opportunity to score points in Darwin, getting back on the bike for round five will be pivotal for Buckley, who remains in the race to claim the Shark Helmets ‘Rookie of the Year’ honours in the 2017 standings. He’s currently 13th overall in the championship and fourth of the rookies.
