A further $10-million pledged toward all-new permanent circuit.
Plans for a second circuit to be constructed at Bathurst have received yet another boost, with the federal government announcing a $10-million grant toward the planned permanent venue.
The latest $10-million commitment follows the state government’s previously confirmed contribution of $15-million and Bathurst Regional Council’s (BRC) $10-million, as the $52.4-million Velocity Park project continues to gain momentum.
Calare MP Andrew Gee and Regional Development Minister and Nationals Deputy Leader Fiona Nash visited Bathurst to announce the Federal Government’s contribution.
Mr Gee announced that $10 million will be allocated to the project thanks to the Coalition’s Building Better Regions Fund.
“This is the single biggest grant of its type that has been delivered by the federal government to our area, so it’s a day to celebrate,” Calare MP Andrew Gee told the Western Advocate. “In a major boost for the regional economy, this project will create 220 jobs during construction and another 247 ongoing jobs. All this in addition to the inevitable tourism a development like this brings to the region. This project is something special because it has the vibrant capacity to be a game-changer for the economy of Bathurst.”
BRC has extensive plans in place to build a FIA/FIM-accredited 4.58-kilometre permanent circuit alongside the iconic Mount Panorama circuit, however it’s not been finalised when construction is due to begin. A design tender process is currently taking place.
