Fastest time proves to be a positive for Movistar Yamaha.
Multi-time MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi has received a boost of confidence following the Brno test this week, where he lodged the fastest time of the day while developing a new aero and fork package.
The Movistar Yamaha rider believes the new carbon front forks from Öhlins assists in turning, as well making the handling of the MotoGP machine easier and lighter.
While he think thinks the aero package is an improvement, he’s adamant the fairing will only be beneficial at the certain venues – this weekend’s 11th round at the Red Bull Ring not being one of them.
“I’m so happy because it’s been a long time since I was able to be in the first position on a Monday,” Rossi explained. “I don’t usually like the Monday tests – they are a difficult part of my work. It’s important because we finished a good weekend with a good performance. Being in first position is always a good feeling.
“Between all the things we tried, we tried the fairing that was good. I have a good feeling, but that depends on the track, I don’t think that for example at a track like Austria this fairing will be very important. I’m happy – I like the fork because it helps in the change of direction and the bike is easier and lighter, so it’s a good option.”
Rossi currently sits fourth in the championship standings – one point behind Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) – as the series heads to Austria this weekend for round 11.
