Reigning MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) says he has no regrets following his second place finish to Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) at last weekend’s Austrian grand prix.

The race saw the duo engage in a thrilling battle that come down to wire, with Marquez making a desperate dive in the final turn, only to be passed back by the Italian prior to crossing the line.

The Spaniard evidently gave it all he had, mentioning that even though it was not a victory, it was an important result in his 2017 championship campaign.

“I wouldn’t have slept well tonight if I didn’t try to go for the win in the last corner,” Marquez expressed. “But it wasn’t possible – today, Dovi had just a little bit more than us and it was difficult to overtake him. I tried my best all race, really gave it my all, and I lost the rear many times.

“It was a great battle, and Dovi deserved this victory as he rode very well. We got this second place and it’s good. I’m very happy with these 20 points at this track where I had struggled a lot last year. It’s an important result for the championship.”

The multi-time world champion sits atop of the standings with a 16-point advantage as the series heads to Silverstone in Great Britain on 27 August.
