Sixth on Friday for DesmoSport Ducati newcomer Turner

DesmoSport Ducati press release:

DesmoSport Ducati debutant Corey Turner continued to display impressive form on day one of Australian Superbike Championship practice at Morgan Park in Queensland today.

The 19-year-old set the sixth fastest lap-time overall on Friday with a 1m13.510s at the tight and technical 2.9 kilometre circuit, just 0.567s from the quickest time despite completing limited laps.

Riding in place of injured team regular Callum Spriggs, it was another confidence-inspiring performance from Turner as he gets to grips with the Panigale 1299 S and he’s confident of improving further in qualifying tomorrow.

“Today we have mainly been focusing on doing race runs, while the other riders are looking towards a fast lap,” Turner commented this afternoon. “The team and I looking more towards the race, so tomorrow we will keeping focusing on that keeping pushing towards to getting a good race set-up for Sunday.”

DesmoSport Ducati co-owner and triple Superbike world champion Troy Bayliss was once again pleased to see the pace of Turner as the team works closely with the Queenslander in these early stages of working together.

“We did the ASBK test here at Morgan Park Raceway a few weeks ago and things went pretty good for the DesmoSport Ducati team and Corey,” reflected Bayliss. “Today, it has been a pretty good day as Corey ended up sixth fastest and I’m sure he still has a bit more left in for qualifying and the two races on Sunday. It’s still early days, but everything is looking good for the rest of the weekend.”

The opening 30-minute qualifying session for the premier Superbike class is scheduled for Saturday at 11:05am local time, with session two taking off from 3:10pm. Visit www.asbk.com.au for further information on the series.
