Youthful talent and DesmoSport Ducati newcomer Corey Turner has solidified himself as a front-runner in the premier category after claiming his first race podium finish at last weekend’s fifth round the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) presented by Motul Pirelli.

Turner lodged a highly-impressive second place result in the opening outing at Morgan Park, before a crash in race two denied him of finishing higher in the overall placings.

Despite the mishap, the Queenslander was able to remount for eighth, positioning fourth overall to match his career-best overall finish.

“To finish P2 in the first race, my first-ever with DesmoSport Ducati was a great result for us,” Turner commented. “I had consistent times and that played a big part in the end. We ended up on the podium and it was a really good feeling for everybody.

“Your day can go from being on such a high to such a low, when I crashed out of race two. I was closing in on the front group and I was kind of waiting for the last couple of laps, but I don’t really know what happened coming around turn six when I went down.

“Anyway, there’s no taking away what we achieved in the first race, I still got back on the bike to finish eighth after crashing, so that was okay and now I just can’t wait to get back on the Panigale again and keep on improving.”

Turner sits eighth in the championship standings as the ASBK series heads to Sydney Motorsport Park on 8-10 September for the sixth stop on the calendar.
