Current Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) leader Wayne Maxwell believes improvements to his front-end feeling will be instrumental as the series heads to Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend for the penultimate round.

The Yamaha Racing Team rider has just come off a stellar performance at Morgan Park that saw him take the round win and demote Troy Herfoss (Crankt Protein Honda Racing) from the top spot to be the new points leader.

Maxwell revealed a new strategy with the factory YZF-R1 superbike machine is improving, which has led to a strong, race-winning package out on-track.

“We’ll go to Sydney and keep pushing on and keep improving the bike,” Maxwell told CycleOnline.com.au. “Mainly for me, it’s to keep improving the front-end feel, we’ve got good acceleration grip, good side grip and rolling speed – so just improving that. Our new strategy with the Yamaha is getting better with how the engine power is, so hopefully was can improve that in Sydney.”

The 2013 series champion now holds a five-point advantage in the premier class as the ASBK championship heads into the business end of the series, with just two of the seven rounds remaining.
