DesmoSport Ducati newcomer Corey Turner will look to carry positive round five momentum into this weekend’s Sydney Motorsport Park round of the 2017 Australian Superbike Championship.

Claiming a career-first Superbike class podium at Morgan Park in the opening race, the 19-year-old praised the work of his new DesmoSport Ducati team as they prepare for the second round of their partnership.

“I think I surprised myself a little bit with the second place in race one, but I do think it was coming,” said Turner. “The DesmoSport Ducati boys worked really hard all weekend and in the first race everything came together and I was able to grab my first racing podium in ASBK.”

Despite spending minimal time at the Sydney Motorsport Park facility, Turner expects another positive weekend ahead competing on the circuit that he believes suits his style well.

“The test went well last week at Eastern Creek, but it was actually the second time I’ve ridden the circuit,” Turner explained. “So I haven’t done many laps there at all, but it is a great circuit.

“In the laps that I have done, I do like it and I think it’s a track that suits my style. I’m not really sure what to expect this weekend, but we’ll see where we end up.“

Following an impressive racing debut by Turner for the DesmoSport Ducati team, team co-owner Ben Henry looks forward to more positive results this weekend at round six.

“We’re pretty positive about it all and we think he can do a good job again this weekend,” Henry commented. “Much like the previous race, if we can get into the top five, I think we’re doing a good job and I think it is achievable.

“We tested at Sydney Motorsport Park and we weren’t super fast, but we weren’t miles off the pace and I think everything is ok. As an overall we’re obviously really positive, we think we can do a good job again and move forward.”

The sixth round of the 2017 Australian Superbike Championship will take place at Sydney Motorsport Park, NSW, on 8-10 September.
