Glenn Irwin (Be Wiser Ducati Racing Team), Josh Brookes (Anvil Hire Yamaha) and Dan Linfoot (Honda Racing) have all claimed a race victory at Silverstone’s triple-header ninth round of the 2017 MCE British Superbike (BSB) championship.

In race one, it was Irwin who stormed to victory – a career first – in what was a challenging and difficult outing as wet weather play its part. Runner-up was Australia’s Brooked followed by American John Hopkins (Moto Rapido Ducati).

Jake Dixon (RAF Regular and Reserve Kawasaki) was fourth ahead of JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey, as Aussie Jason O’Halloran (Honda Racing) was 11th. Championship contenders Shayne Bryne (Be Wiser Ducati Racing Team) and Leon Haslam (JG Speedfit Kawasaki) both experienced problems, ultimately recording DNF results.

The second outing was spoiled by a safety car early on followed by a red flag for oil spilt on the circuit, with officials soon declaring the race. Brookes was awarded the win after the positions up front were frantically changing, although it would be James Ellison (McAMS Yamaha) and Bryne who would complete the podium.

Top five was rounded out by Sylvain Guintoli (Bennetts Suzuki) and O’Halloran, as regular front runners Irwin, Haslam and Linfoot all bowed out of the race.

The final race of the day saw Linfoot become the ninth different race winner in what was a peculiar event, as just seven of the 23 riders completed the nine-lap affair in once again challenging conditions.

Second was credited to Michael Laverty (McAMS Yamaha) ahead of Dixon, with James Westmoreland (Gearlink Kawasaki) and Jakub Smrz (Lloyd and Jones PR Racing BMW) finishing in fourth and fifth respectively.

The championship Showdown will include Byrne, Haslam, Brookes, Peter Hickman (Smiths Racing BMW), Dixon and O’Halloran, all who made an early retirement from the third race at Silverstone.

Australians Benjamin Currie (Gearlink Kawasaki) and Arthur Sissis (McAMS Yamaha) lodged 3-DNF and 7-3 scorecards respectively in the Supersport class, as compatriots Sam Clarke (Yamaha) and Brayden Elliott (Yamaha) were 20th and 29th in the Superstock 1000 division. Fellow Aussie Levi Day (Ducati) went 12-4 in the Ducati TriOptions Cup.

The next round of the British Superbike Championship will be hosted by Oulton Park on 15-17 September, marking the 10th stop of the series.
