World champion Jonathan Rea was quickest once again on Monday as Motul Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) testing concluded at Portimao, Portugal, leading the way aboard his Kawasaki Racing Team ZX-10RR.

Rea posted a quick time of 1m41.485s to lead Leon Camier (Red Bull Honda) by 0.138s and Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha) in third overall, a further 0.010s in arrears following two days on track.

Behind Lowes was teammate Michael van der Mark on the second of the R1s, leading rookie standout Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pucetti Racing Kawasaki), who in turn got the better of Rea’s factory Kawasaki stablemate Tom Sykes in sixth.

Milwaukee Aprilia-mounted Eugene Laverty was seventh, over a second of the pace of Rea, while Aruba.it Racing Ducati’s Chaz Davies and Marco Melandri were down in eighth and ninth – still working to adapt their Panigale Rs to the 2018 regulations. The top 10 was completed by MV Agusta’s Jordi Torres.

The teams will now pack up their garages to prepare the third pre-season test which takes place next month in Australia, where two days of testing will take place before the start of Phillip Island’s opening round.
