Maxwell fastest in Friday's ASBK practice at Wakefield Park

Yamaha's Halliday charges to quick-time in Supersport category.

Yamaha Racing Team’s Wayne Maxwell has claimed the top spot in Friday’s practice at round two of the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK), hosted at Wakefield Park in New South Wales.

Maxwell was fastest all day throughout all three practice sessions, lodging his fastest time of 57.182s in the final outing of the opening day.

Penrite Honda Racing’s Troy Herfoss, who’s aiming for a third-straight victory at the venue this weekend, was runner-up on the timesheets, setting a quick-lap of 57.679s.

There was no time spared between Daniel Falzon (Yamaha Racing Team) and Troy Bayliss (Desmosport Ducati), with the pair both recording times of 57.822s, however it was Falzon who was awarded the final position inside the top three.

Josh Waters (Team Suzuki Ecstar) rounded out the top five with a 57.984s time, as sixth through to 10th was completed by Jamie Stauffer (Craig McMartin Racing), Glenn Allerton (NextGen Motorsports), Bryan Staring (Kawasaki BCperformance), Michael Blair (Yamaha) and Matt Walters (Swann Insurance Superbike Team).

In the Supersport category, it was Yamaha Racing Team’s Cru Halliday who soared to the fastest time, laying down a 59.050s lap to comfortably edge out Cube Racing’s Tom Toparis, who set a time of 59.363s.

Yamaha-mounted Broc Pearson completed the day third on the timesheets with a 1m0.186s time, while it was Damon Rees (Honda) and Lachlan Epis (Kawasaki) who concluded the top five, lodging times of 1m0.212s and 1m0.320s respectively.

Hunter Ford (Yamaha) was fastest in the Supersport 300 class, beating home Tayla Relph (Yamaha) and Locky Taylor (Yamaha), while it was also Ford who took out the top spot in the Yamaha R3 Cup ahead of Zac Levy (Yamaha) and Taylor in third once again.

Yamaha’s Max Stauffer topped the GP Junior Cup division, followed by Reece Oughtred (Yamaha) and John Lytras (Yamaha). Bikes will return to the circuit tomorrow for the first qualifying sessions and races of the weekend.
