Irishman successfully undergoes surgery in Thailand.
Milwaukee Aprilia’s Eugene Laverty is recovering from a broken pelvis sustained at Chang International Circuit after crashing out of World Superbike race two in Thailand on Sunday.
Laverty went down early on in the second encounter while running in sixth position, breaking his pubic ramus bone. The Irishman underwent surgery for a minor internal injury on Sunday evening.
“It was cruel luck for Eugene today,” explained Shaun Muir, Milwaukee Aprilia team manager. “We made significant improvements overnight and his times in morning warm up showed that he had strong pace for race two.
“The injuries he sustained in his crash on lap four are serious enough that he will be sidelined for a number of weeks, but it’s too early to say how long for. The focus today is to get Eugene stable and back home as soon as he is fit to travel.”
It’s uncertain when Laverty will be able to return to action, with round three of the championship scheduled for Motorland Aragon in Spain between 13-15 April.
