New best lap has Yamaha Racing Team rider out front on Friday.
Yamaha Racing Team’s Wayne Maxwell has taken the provisional Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) pole position at The Bend Motorsport Park, South Australia.
Maxwell recorded a new best lap of the International Circuit configuration at 1m52.374s, placing him 0.255s ahead of championship leader Troy Herfoss (Penrite Honda Racing).
Thursday’s fastest, Troy Bayliss (DesmoSport Ducati) was the final rider within the 52s this afternoon for third, directly ahead of defending champion Josh Waters (Team Suzuki Ecstar) – last of the field within a second of Maxwell – and local Daniel Falzon (Yamaha Racing Team).
While Falzon was a second from pole, a further full second behind him was Bryan Staring (Kawasaki BCperformance) in sixth, with Alex Phillis (Phillis Racing Suzuki), Glenn Allerton (Next Gen Motorsports BMW), Arthur Sissis (SA Demolition Suzuki) and Kiwi Mitch Rees (Tony Rees Motorcycles Carl Cox Motorsport Honda) filling the top 10.
Saturday at The Bend will see qualifying two of the premier Superbike category take place from 9:40am local time, with the opening 10-lap encounter due to take-off at 12:35pm.
