Asia Road Racing Championship officials have abandoned the crash-marred opening race of the weekend in SuperSports 600cc at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia.

There was all kinds of action as the race opened and top riders tripped in the early laps, however it was a crash from pole-setter Yuki Ito (Yamaha Racing Team Asean) that forced the first stoppage.

Ito’s crash came following three laps – stopped as he required medical assistance – and once it resumed, three laps later a major high-side for current champion Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman (Manual Tech KYT Kawasaki Racing) caused a second red flag. Track clean-up requirements then was deemed the cause for the final abandonment.

In the high-profile Asia Production 250cc ranks it was Indonesian Rheza Danica Ahrens (Astra Honda Racing Team) who took the chequered flag 0.079s ahead of countryman and teammate Mario Suryo Aji, with Andy Muhammad Fadly (Manual Tech KYT Kawasaki Racing) completing the podium.

The first Underbone 150cc race was just as entertaining, with Md Izzat Zaidi (RCB Yamaha YY Pang Racing) winning by just over a tenth from Md Helmi Azman (SCK Rapido Hi Rev Honda Racing Team) and Wahyu Aji Trilaksana (Yamaha Racing Indonesia). Australian debutant Travis Hall (SCK Rapido Hi Rev Honda Racing Team) impressed with position nine.
