In-form Moto2 World Championship regular to miss Jerez.
Australian Moto2 export Remy Gardner has broken both legs in a motocross training incident ahead of this weekend’s first European round of the 2018 world championship at Jerez, Spain.
The Tech3 Racing regular is due to undergo further evaluation on the extent of his injuries, forced out of at least the Spanish round. He currently sits 12th in the standings after three rounds.
“It’s very disappointing news that we received today from Wayne Gardner informing us that Remy apparently broke his two legs and one ankle, which means of course he won’t be in Jerez,” explained team manager Herve Poncharal. “Right now, I think he will be transferred to the Dexeus Clinica of Dr Mir and we have to wait and see.
“It looks like he could be out for a few weeks, so he won’t be able to race this weekend, which is a big shame, because Remy was having the best start of his young career in Moto2 with a good race in Qatar, a really, really strong race in Argentina. Texas was a bit less competitive, but still holding a good position in the championship.
“For sure after having nine days of testing in Jerez, we were looking for a good performance there. Unfortunately, it is what it is and he isn’t the first one with an accident in training. Every year, race by race, MotoGP Championship riders are getting injured while training. It’s a shame, but this is life.”
It’s been confirmed that CEV regular Hector Garzo will take over Gardner’s Mistral 610, previously displaying great potential with the Tech3 Racing team last season when stepping in for Xavi Vierge at the German GP.
