British Superbike contender lodges improved results at Oulton Park.
McAms Yamaha rider Josh Brookes has declared the importance of additional testing after he found a positive direction with his YZF-R1 at the weekend’s third round of the British Superbike Championship (BSB) at Oulton Park.
Since transitioning to the factory-backed outfit, the Australian has endured difficulties in finding a comfortable set-up, however the weekend’s round saw improved results as he recorded a pair of sixth place finishes.
“We came into this meeting thinking we would be battling for podiums but that wasn’t the case,” Brookes explained. “Everyone upped their pace on race day and the high temperatures definitely had an effect on our settings.
“Our pace towards the end of the races was strong but it’s those initial, early laps and of course being hampered by bad qualifying grid positions that punished us. We have made some good progression but need some more testing now we have a good direction.”
Finishing just shy of the championship last year, Brookes’ steady start to his 2018 campaign sees him currently situated seventh in the points standings. The next round of the British Superbike Championship is scheduled for 15-17 June at Snetterton.
