A late opportunity to deputise for Leon Camier at Red Bull Honda has ended in a fractured leg for Australia’s Jason O’Halloran at Imola.

The British championship regular qualified ahead of teammate Jake Gagne in 18th despite replacing Camier from FP3, but crashed out of race one on lap two.

O’Halloran crashed at the entry to the Villeneuve Chicane, leaving him with a fracture to his lower right leg and he was transported to Imola Hospital for further treatment, undergoing surgery to repair the damage over the weekend.

“Unfortunately Jason had a crash early in race one at the Villeneuve Chicane, which saw him fracture his right lower leg,” explained Red Bull Honda team manager Kevin Bos. “This is such a shame for him and we hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

“I travelled with Jason to the hospital and despite the injury he’s doing well and he impressed the team with his performance on the bike this weekend.”

With the next round of the British Superbike Championship not until 15-17 June at Snetterton, O’Halloran will be working on his recovery to be back on the bike in time for that event.
