In what has been a disastrous start to his 2018 MotoGP World Championship campaign, Jorge Lorenzo is drawing upon his strong track record at the Le Mans circuit for a boost of energy ahead of the weekend’s grand prix.

The Ducati Team rider has earned five victories at the French venue since graduating to the premier class a decade ago, with his last triumph at the popular circuit coming in 2016.

Lorenzo displayed promising pace at the previous round in Jerez, Spain, until an unpredictable clash between himself and Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) resulted in a premature end to their weekends, along with taking down teammate Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) in the process as the trio were engaged in a three-way battle.

“After what happened at Jerez I can’t wait to race at Le Mans,” Lorenzo expressed. “As I said after the race, despite the crash I think that the information we picked up during the Spanish GP was very positive. We worked well throughout the weekend and improved my feeling with the Desmosedici GP.

“In the race, even though I didn’t have the best pace, I showed I was one of the quickest riders out there and this should be our starting point in every grand prix.

“The aim at Le Mans will be the same as always – to be competitive right from day one and be able to fight up at the front in the race. I’m full of energy and anxious to race on Sunday at a circuit where I’ve won many times in the past.”

The former multi-time champion currently sits 20th in the series standings after the first four rounds of the 19-stop tour.
