Mid-race crash further damages the Italian's chances of fighting for the MotoGP title.
Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso has expressed his frustration in crashing out of the weekend’s fifth stop of the MotoGP World Championship in France, stating he’s gutted to further damage his chances at fighting for the title.
It’s the second-consecutive round that Dovizioso has failed to complete, although while the incident at Jerez was completely out of his control, the Italian has taken full responsibility for the error he made in Sunday’s 25-lap affair.
“I’m really gutted – this time it was only my mistake,” Dovizioso commented. “I went a bit wide at turn six, I didn’t think I had any problems with the front turning in but it did. It’s a real pity because today I had good sensations and a chance of fighting for the win, I think quite easily, and it is an unacceptable error for someone like myself who wants to fight for the title.
“At this moment in time it’s hard to digest the mistake I made because I usually don’t make any, but unfortunately races are sometimes like that and now we have to look to the future. I want to say sorry to the team and the guys in Ducati Corse because we did an outstanding job this weekend, we came to the race in perfect condition and our bike was simply terrific.”
Dovizioso sits ninth in the championship standings, 49 points behind rival and series leader Marc Marquez as the MotoGP contingent heads to Mugello in Italy on 3 June for the sixth stop of the series.
