Motorcycling Australia has revealed a Superbike Masters support category will be added to proceedings at Phillip Island’s seventh and final round of the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK).

The class will celebrate historic racing, consisting of combined P5 Formula 1, P5 Unlimited, P6 Formula 750 and P6 Formula 1300 divisions in an all-in fight for top honours.

Historic racing will also provide a previously untapped audience to an ASBK round, and the inclusion of the Superbike Masters to the final round will bring the meeting up to six classes alongside the regular championship categories.

Motorcycling Australia’ CEO Peter Doyle commented on the newly added class: “This concept has been in pipeline for some time and brings with it another dimension to ASBK. The return of many of the popular machines from yesteryear will hopefully bring some of Australia’s previous road racing champions back out on the track.”

Phillip Island’s finale is scheduled to take place on 12-14 October at the popular grand prix circuit in Victoria.
