Australian Jack Miller says he was an innocent bystander after getting caught up in a turn three crash on lap one at yesterday’s ninth round of the MotoGP World Championship in Germany.

Pol Espargaro (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) made contact with Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar), resulting in the duo crashing into the gravel trap while forcing Miller to avoid the carnage, demoting him to the rear of the field in the process.

Despite the setback, the Pramac Racing ace charged back through the field to ultimately wind up in 14th position, salvaging an almost disastrous round with two championship points to his credit.

“It all actually kicked off before at turn two when Pol hit me, he definitely rode a little bit out of control on the first couple of corners,” Miller explained in regular Red Bull column. “He then hit [Andrea] Iannone and Rins, I forget in which order but he hit both of them, and I got tangled in it.

“I ran off through the gravel trap, managed to miss all the bikes and riders and got as far as the wall, managed to stay on and dug myself out of that, and there I was in last place, 29 laps to go and a fair way behind the rest of the pack for something I basically had nothing to do with. An innocent bystander, basically.

“From there it was head down, bum up and salvage what I could. I managed to get two points and somehow stay inside the top 10 in the championship, and the good thing was that the pace was pretty decent.”

The Queensland-native narrowly clings onto a top 10 placing in the championship standings as the series heads into a three-week summer break before returning on 5 August at Brno in the Czech Republic.
