Dunlop development continues at Morgan Park

Ficeda Accessories press release:

The fifth round of the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) took place at Morgan Park raceway, just two and a half hours west of the Gold Coast, over the weekend, where Dunlop continued to develop its racing program alongside the BC Performance Kawasaki Racing Team.

After great indicators in testing and practice, a temperature drop and red flag changed conditions considerably come race day, pushing the talented Bryan Staring to 7-6 results to finish the weekend in sixth overall on the ZX10-R superbike. Teammates Kyle Buckley (ZX10-R) and Giuseppe Scarcella (ZX6-R) both suffered crashes over the weekend. With two rounds now under his belt in the 2018 championship, Glenn Scott continues to gain confidence with 11-11 finishes for 12th overall.

Qualifying fifth fastest with a 1:13.745, Staring once again set his quickest time in the first of the two Saturday qualifying sessions.

Bryan Staring: “It was a tough weekend for the team, Dunlop and myself. Racing doesn’t always go the direction it’s intended to and we didn’t get the result we expected. Regardless, I thank Dunlop for their ongoing support and drive to succeed, which we’ve proven at times this season.”

Dunlop Motorsport Manager, Robbie Bugden: “Morgan Park was slated as a challenging circuit at the speeds the leading superbike racers are going. The lap record heading into the weekend was set on a Dunlop rear by Cru Halliday on the YZF-R1, with a 1:12.808, in 2017, but conditions here change considerably with wind and track temperature playing a big role. The red flag at the start of race one played an important part in Bryan’s results giving us feedback different to the previous five sessions on the circuit. We’ve taken a lot of data away from the weekend and are looking forward to the next round in Winton with its fast sweeping corners, hard-braking areas and an aggressive surface, where lap times will be fast but tyre degradation is very heavy over the 12 turns in the 3km circuit.”

Glenn Scott: “I’m happy with my position after just my second round this year. The grip and feel I have from the front tyre is really helping to build my confidence, allowing me to push hard. We’re still working to develop the bike to work better with the rear tyre though. Once we get there, I’m certain we’ll be in a position to battle with the next group of racers ahead of me.”

Winton Raceway, Victoria hosts round six of the ASBK on September 7-9 where the Dunlop team will once again be on the ground supporting racers, offering technical advice and tyre fitting while gaining critical feedback on Dunlop’s enormous range of tyres available globally.
