Race one crash marks difficult start to Showdown title bid.
Josh Brookes’ campaign in the Bennett British Superbike (BSB) Showdown has started in challenging fashion after he crashed out of the opening race of Oulton Park’s 10th round on the weekend.
Wet conditions played havoc in the opening encounter, which according to Brookes, did not play into the favour of his McAms Yamaha prepared YZF-R1.
He bounced back in race two to salvage what he could, mustering up a fifth place finish to retain a top three placing in the championship rankings.
“It’s been a tough weekend there’s no doubt about that,” Brookes declared. “Our bike is on the edge in slippery conditions and if you push too hard a slip off can happen.
“Race two saw us start a way back on the grid in 13th, which would normally not be a problem but on a drying track there’s just one line so it was tough to pass people and I also had a problem left over from my race one crash with the rear brake.”
The British Superbike Championship is set to return on 28-30 September at Assen in The Netherlands for the 11th stop of the series.
