Australian Tom Edwards is amongst a list of 105 youthful talents that will participate in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup selection event next week on 2-4 October at Guadix in Spain.

Edwards, who’s been contesting the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship (WorldSSP300) this season, claimed his first pole position at the previous round in Portugal before posting a career-best result of sixth.

The New South Wales native is the sole Australian listed for the selection event, although if he is successful and accepts a position in the prestigious academy, he will be joined by compatriot Billy van Eerde, who will remain in the Rookies Cup for 2019 after being involved in this year’s edition.

The Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup will see riders from over 32 nations converge at the Spanish venue, where on each of the first two days, half the 105 strong entrants will get to show their skills on the new four-stroke PreMoto3 machines in front of the judging panel.

The event culminates in the late afternoon of day three with the reading out of a short list of names, those invited to be part of the 2019 Rookies Cup and join those continuing from this season.
