Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jonathan Rea could make it four consecutive Motul FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) crowns this weekend at Magny Cours in France, should the results between his rivals play into his favour.

The Irishman, who came off a stellar showing at the previous round in Portimao, holds a healthy 116-point advantage over Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), and will need to extend that to 125 points at the conclusion of Saturday’s race one to clinch the title.

For Rea, it’s business as usual as he targets two race victories, which will grant him the best chance of wrapping up the championship with two rounds to spare.

“I am really excited to go to Magny Cours, especially after the last races where our bike and package has been really strong,” Rea explained. “I have incredible memories from last year and this weekend marks the first opportunity we have to try to clinch a world championship.

“But, I am trying to put that to the back of my mind and attack the weekend like every other weekend – work methodically with my family, all the team and our bike to find the best race set-up we can. The weather forecast looks like it is going to be stable throughout the weekend. The target is simple, like at Portimao and the last few rounds, to go out and try to win two races.”

Magny Cours’ round of the Superbike World Championship marks the 11th stop of the series of the 13-round series.
