Tech3 Racing fill-in rider Bryan Staring will be back on track tomorrow at Phillip Island despite a difficult opening day in Moto2, being taken out in the early stages of practice two.

Staring was 27th in the morning session in his first laps aboard the Mistral 610, however Khairul Idham Pawi (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) collided with him in the early stages of FP2 at turn four.

Despite initial concerns that he may be ruled out of the weekend’s remainder, the Western Australian has indicated he will keep pressing on come Saturday’s sessions alongside Remy Gardner.

“Unfortunately I did only three laps in FP2, but from this morning we had a very positive session,” Staring reflected. “I think we didn’t set the world on fire with the lap-time, but I got to learn a lot about the bike and initial feelings on how to ride it.

“I’m sure we would have taken a good step forward in free practice two, but we didn’t get the opportunity. So hopefully the bike is not too damaged and I don’t wake up too sore tomorrow – I think we can still have a good weekend.”

Staring ended up 29th on combined times following Friday’s running, his 1m36.455s lap-time just over a second in arrears of Tech3 regular Gardner’s best for 26th position. He too crashed heavily on day one in FP1.
