Bayliss earns Superbike overall as Herfoss clinches race three victory

Cube Racing's Bayliss claims Supersport 300 race win and overall.

Recently-crowned ASBK champion Troy Herfoss (Penrite Honda Racing) stormed to a thrilling victory in the final Superbike encounter of the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island, while it was three-time world superbike champion Troy Bayliss (DesmoSport Ducati) who claimed the overall win.

Bayliss’ stellar 1-2-2 scorecard placed him atop the weekend’s standings, edging out race two winner Glenn Allerton (Next Gen Motorsports) by two points, while Herfoss held down third overall.

In a frantic race three, champion Herfoss snatched the lead to cross the line with 0.327s advantage ahead of Bayliss, with Allerton an incredible 0.001s shy of the number 21 in a result that ultimately determined the overall victor.

Mark Chiodo (Suzuki) wound up in fourth in race three, 9.212s behind the leaders, while Alex Phillis (Suzuki) concluded the top five.

In Supersport 300, a race two victory promoted Oli Bayliss (Cube Racing) to the top of the standings, making it a family affair on the top step of the podium in the both support categories. The youthful talent was joined on the rostrum by Seth Crump (KTM) and Hunter Ford (Yamaha).

In a shortened two race schedule, the final outing as Ford fell just 0.092s shy of victory behind Bayliss, as third was taken out by Dylan Whiteside (Kawasaki). Fourth and fifth were awarded to Lachlan Taylor (Yamaha) and Crump.
