Front-running pace a promising sign for the Tech3 Racing rider.
Australian Moto2 contender Remy Gardner says he’s devastated by his early exit from yesterday’s 25-lap Moto2 encounter at Phillip Island after displaying promising pace in the early stages.
The Tech3 Racing talent started from P15 on the grid prior working his way into the top six, recording laps times on par with the leaders before disaster struck on lap 13 when he was forced to avoid a mistake from Joan Mir (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) in front of him, subsequently crashing out of the race.
“After Friday I was battered and bruised, but your home grand prix only comes once a year so I was determined to put on a good show,” said Gardner. “We improved in qualifying and I was so up for the race. I was riding well and felt great so all I can say is that I am truly heartbroken and devastated.
“It was really unlucky to crash, but I had nowhere to go and hit the back of Mir. It was a racing incident but such a shame. Thanks to the fans for their amazing support. We will come back stronger!”
Gardner sits 19th in the Moto2 rankings as the series heads to Sepang this weekend for the penultimate round of the championship.
