Glenn Scott seals sixth overall at The Bend

GSR Kawasaki press release:

Team GSR Kawasaki haven taken 6th overall on the weekend and are the top privateer team after the first three rounds of the championship.

Round 3, saw the ASBK championship head to The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia along with the Asian Road Racing championship. This created an action packed weekend for fans, with practice, qualifying and 2-3 races for each class spaced out over 4 days.

Glenn and the team were optimistic about the weekend, despite not racing at the track before and only having participated in one test day on their Kawasaki ZX10-R.

“The Bend is a very new circuit for Australian motorcycle racing. It was completed at the start of last year and featured in the ASBK championship for the first time last year. This was the second time my competitors had been to the circuit, but for me it was only my first.

I knew we were going to have to work hard all weekend to find the right setting to help increase tyre life.

The Bend is an amazing lay out which I thoroughly enjoy, however, it is quite challenging for tyres as the surface offers an unbelievable amount of grip, which considerably decreases tyre life, so we had to find a setting for longevity and consistency to last the race.

A strategy that the team and I took as a gamble, as the factory boys had outright fast lap times, something we couldn’t match, however our aim was to be strong at the end of the race which paid off, resulting in our best finish yet”.

Qualifying saw Scott and the team take 15th position on the grid for all three races with a lap time of 1:55.2. Glenn had three stellar starts, which allowed him to mix it with the front boys for the first lap and then stay consistent throughout all races, whilst also making passes and battling for higher positions.

Team GSR Kawasaki finished race 1 on Saturday in 7th (their best result of the season) and finished Sundays two races 9th and 8th respectively, putting Glenn 6th overall and top privateer for the round. This great result bumped Glenn to 8th in the championship standings and leading privateer.

“I’m ecstatic with my weekend, my confidence and consistency is building nicely. The Bend is a unique circuit which challenges both rider and machine. A real solid strategy was needed for the three 10 lap races.

I am thankful to have such a great team around me, my crew chief Al Samuels, mechanic Ryan Hughes and Tom Kallis from Darby St Automotive who worked incredibly hard to give me the best ZX10-R possible and we are very proud of our rewarding results. I look forward to continuing this success at Round 4 in Morgan Park.

I would like to extend my congratulations to Bryan Staring and Kawasaki on taking the win across all 3 races, it was a solid effort showing the true capabilities of the Kawasaki ZX10RR”.

“Thank you to my sponsors for your ongoing support: Kawasaki Motors Australia / Easy Mix Concrete / Darby St Automotive / BJ Howes Metal Land / Commercial Kitchens Direct / K&R Hydraulics Workshop / Maverick Racing Development / Singo’s Wholesale Meats / Gimoto / Fitmoto / Maxima Racing Oils / Mick Muldoon Motorcycles / Veolia / OZMC Leathers / Thinkwater Peats Ridge / MSC Moto”.
