Penrite Honda Racing's Herfoss and Chiodo on target for Winton

Penrite Honda Racing press release:

Defending champion Troy Herfoss arrives at Winton Motor Raceway’s fifth round of the 2019 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) with confidence on his side following an inspiring shakedown at the Victorian circuit last month.

Herfoss, 32, finished third overall last time out at Morgan Park two months ago and has since contested the prestigious Suzuka 8 Hours in Japan, where he finished ninth overall as part of Moriwaki Racing Honda.

Currently positioned fourth in the ASBK standings and only 15 points from the lead, Herfoss is confident that he will be in the frame to repeat last year’s victory at the venue aboard the ER Motorsport-prepared CBR1000RR SP Fireblade.

“Winton is a pretty important round at this point in the championship,” commented Herfoss. “It’s been an up and down series for a lot of people – a few have had some bad luck and others have kept themselves in it through consistency – so it is tight in the points.

“There are a number of guys who could capitalise on a strong round at Winton and, honestly, I feel the best on the bike since I did at this track last year when I won the championship. The test that we had here was really, really good for us, so I’m looking forward to getting out there no matter what the conditions are.”

Penrite Honda Racing teammate Mark Chiodo continues to make headway since joining Honda’s factory team in 2019, entering round five of the season ranked 12th in the standings. He too is taking elevated expectations into what is a home track for the talented young Victorian.

“It’s been such a long break in between rounds, so we’re definitely ready to get back on track during the race weekend at Winton,” 21-year-old Chiodo said. “We did the recent test here, which was okay for us, but we’re uncertain on the weather at the moment.

“I’m excited though, if it does end up raining I will be ready to try as hard as I can either way. Last year was good for me here when I finished sixth in race one and had good pace, so as a local track for me where I’ve done a lot of laps, it’s definitely a favourite of mine.”

Superbikes will be on track for three 30-minute free practice sessions on Friday, with timed practice and qualifying on Saturday to decide the grid, followed by a pair of 16-lap premier class races scheduled for Sunday.
