ASBK title on the line in Sydney for Penrite Honda Racing's Herfoss

Penrite Honda Racing press release:

Penrite Honda Racing heads to Sydney Motorsport Park for the seventh and final round of the 2019 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) between 1-3 November, where Troy Herfoss will aim to clinch a second-consecutive premier class crown.

Herfoss, who holds a three-point advantage in the point-standings, is riding a wave of confidence after storming to victory at Phillip Island’s sixth round, while also claiming top honours at last weekend’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix support race.

“It’s exciting really and it’s a similar situation to the first title I won with Honda in 2015, where we’re coming into the last round really close in points with a lead over Wayne [Maxwell] and Mike [Jones],” 32-year-old Herfoss explained.

“All three of us have been at the front over the last few races, so it’s been a really close battle. I’m happy we’ve found momentum in the last few rounds and hopefully we can carry it through to Sunday.”

Teammate Mark Chiodo, who is currently positioned 11th in the standings, enters Sydney’s finale with a boost of confidence after finishing runner-up on the grand prix weekend at Phillip Island. Sitting just shy of a top 10 ranking, he is endeavouring to take his ER Motorsport-prepared CBR1000RR SP Fireblade further up the order on Sunday.

“It was definitely good to get out last weekend at Phillip Island and finished second behind Troy,” said Chiodo. “It’s really given me an extra boost of confidence for Sydney and hopefully a pair of strong results will place me inside the top 10 in the championship.”

Round seven of ASBK kicks off with a trio of practice sessions today, followed by qualifying to determine the grid on Saturday and a pair of 13-lap races on Sunday. Visit www.asbk.com.au for further information including Livestream and broadcast details.
