Moto2 world champion Remy Gardner has undergone successful surgery on a small crack in his right wrist, the MotoGP rookie injuring himself in a recent motocross training accident.

Gardner, 23, was operated on by Dr Xavier Mir and will be able to start his recovery process later this week. The first pre-season test of the year is just over two weeks away on 5-6 February at Sepang.

“Remy was operated today in Barcelona by Doctor Mir, who placed two screws to help him recover,” a statement from Tech3 KTM Factory Racing read.

“The operation was a success and we are relieved to announce that our number 87 will be able to start his recovery process on Friday. Thank you Doctor Mir and get well soon champ.”

It has not been confirmed whether Gardner will still attend the upcoming pre-season test in Malaysia, the Australian sharing: “Small wrist fracture operation went well… Let’s see how the next few days go.”
