National number one Wayne Maxwell continued his dominant run in the 2022 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) test at Phillip Island on Friday, concluding the official two-day program quickest overall.

Maxwell recorded a 1m31.848s on day two to lead Yamaha Racing Team’s Cru Halliday, who narrowed the margin to Maxwell with a 1m32.232s lap-time before the weather halted proceedings.

An impressive effort from Lachlan Epis (BMW Alliance Racing) saw him also in the 1m32s in third overall, directly ahead of DesmoSport Ducati signing Bryan Staring, Aiden Wagner (Addicted To Track Yamaha) and Mark Chiodo (Yamaha) – each stopping the clock in the 1m33.0s.

The return of Mike Jones to YRT resulted in seventh overall, the top 10 being completed by fellow former champions Glenn Allerton and Josh Waters at Maxima BMW, as well as Arthur Sissis (Unitech Racing Yamaha).

In Supersport, it was Oli Bayliss who led the way on his Panigale V2 at 1m34.484s before heading to Europe, while first of the locals was Tom Edwards (Yamaha) with a 1m35.012s.

Honda-mounted Senna Agius, Harrison Voight (Yamaha) and Luke Power were the top five, with last year’s Supersport 300 champion Ben Baker (Yamaha) slotting into sixth on the combined times.

Top of the 300 sessions at the test was Voight on a Moto3 bike at 1m39.533s, with last year’s Oceania Junior Cup champion Cameron Swain (Yamaha) quickest of the Supersport 300 entries on Friday with a 1m49.491s.
