Maxima Oils BMW’s Glenn Allerton enters the upcoming Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) with a positive mindset, indicating he’s reached ‘best form of my life’ as Phillip Island’s season-opener approaches.

After a string of injuries that started back at Wakefield Park in 2017, the three-time champion has continued to build with progress evident in the last two seasons, going on to secure second in the last year’s ASBK championship.

“I’ve always had the fire within, being a three-time champion I know what it takes to do it,” Allerton stated. “Every year it gets a little bit harder to achieve that, the goal has always been push further and further, higher and higher for me to get there.

“I feel like I’m in the best form of my life. I’m 40, but I’m fitter than most of those 20-year-old kids out there and I’m ready to fight for this championship.”

Allerton enters 2022 equipped with the BMW M 1000 RR, a bike that he debuted at Hidden Valley last season, the potential of the machine immediately obvious as the New South Welshman then went on to finish the season strongly at The Bend with P2 overall.

“We got second at The Bend, so it was a good way to finish off the year,” Allerton added. “It was a progression of we’ve been getting stronger and stronger. I’m gelling well with this new M 1000 RR and we are just refining it at the moment, just trying to get a little bit more power of the engine and trying to make the suspension work a little bit better. It’s good to be back on track here at the test.”

Allerton concluded the ASBK pre-season test at Phillip Island in eighth position overall, despite suffering a high-speed fall on day one at The Hayshed.
