Australian World Supersport debutant Oli Bayliss has fractured his right ankle, the injury sustained while testing with the Barni Racing Team at Portimao.

The outing at the Portugal circuit marked Bayliss’ first in Europe and with the team, unfortunately, brought to a premature end due to a crash at the exit of turn five.

A statement from the Barni Racing Team read: “Due to a crash, this morning Oliver Bayliss was brought to the hospital of Portimao, where medical scans reveal a fracture of lateral malleolus on the right ankle. Oliver will try to recover for the next test scheduled for the 16th-17th March at Misano World Circuit.”

The first round of the World Supersport Championship takes place at Aragon on 8-10 April, giving the Ducati rider nearly two months to recover, however, no doubt he will be aiming to be fit as soon as possible to try and streamline his adaption to the European circuits and the Panigale V2.
