Tech3 KTM Factory Racing’s Remy Gardner has alluded that data comparison to the other KTM riders will be pivotal to his MotoGP adaptation, the Australian completing a productive three days of testing in Indonesia.

Gardner completed a total of 153 laps of the all-new Mandalika Circuit, still recovering from a fractured right wrist sustained in a motocross training accident he concluded the three days in 23rd, 1.5s from leader Pol Espargaro.

“Today was the eighth day of riding in two weeks,” Gardner stated. “This morning we did a race simulation. We found a few issues that we need to iron out but the pace was better. After that, I felt tired and my wrist was hurting so we decided to stop at lunchtime.

“I have learned a lot during these winter tests. We will compare the data with the other three KTM riders to try to understand where we can improve but I also still need to feel more comfortable with the machine, and it will come with races and experiences. It has been tough physically and I look forward to going home now, taking some time to relax, recover and get ready for Qatar.”

Top-placed KTM rider at the Indonesian test was Brad Binder, one second a lap up the road from Gardner. With the 2022 competition as close as ever, if Gardner can gain even the slightest margin by learning from the more experienced RC16 riders, it could see a notable improvement when it comes to the overall classification.

The number 87 has just over two and a half weeks before the 2022 MotoGP World Championship commences at Qatar on 4-6 March, a stronger right wrist and further opportunity to review telemetry and data from fellow KTM MotoGP riders could place him in a stronger position come Losail.
