This year’s Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) will see Arthur Sissis return with Unitech Racing Yamaha, that continuity of a similar bike and same team dynamic setting the South Australian up for round one at Phillip Island.

Sissis showed promise during the series finals at The Bend last season, narrowly missing the front row in qualifying with P4 before bad luck and misfortune limited both of Sunday’s outings.

Since his return to domestic competition in 2018, Sissis has ridden a range of manufacturers in different structures, providing insight into certain bike’s strengths, however, lacking a sense of stability from year to year.

While the previous seasons have certainly not been full in terms of rounds contested, Sissis can draw from the fact he is continuing in the same surroundings for another year as he looks to build on the promise shown at the end of 2021.

“I’m looking forward to racing again, as we didn’t do much last year and hopefully we can get a full season in again,” Sissis told CycleOnline. “The last round was only really a month and a half ago, so it feels like we haven’t really had a break and we are hoping to continue how the last round went.

“I really enjoy riding the Yamaha, we’re still finding out new stuff because I’m using Bitubo suspension as well. We’re working out new things and finding out new things, but I think at the Queensland test we found something that hopefully will make it… I felt a lot more comfortable.

“The bike feels more suited to me and, aside from that, everything is pretty much the same [regarding team structure]. I enjoyed it last year with the team, everyone was working pretty good together, so hopefully we can hit the ground running.”

Sissis has achieved great things at the Phillip Island circuit, notably standing on the Moto3 podium in 2012 at the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. While riding a Superbike there is completely different, the fast-staring number 61 will be looking to get his 2022 campaign started in a positive manner this weekend.
