Mi-Bike Australian Superbike contender Daniel Falzon will travel back to South Australia in between Friday’s practice and Sunday’s two races at Queensland Raceway, the JD Racing rider revealing a radical plan to get married this Saturday.

Falzon, 27, planned the wedding date of 19 March over a year ago, maintaining close contact with Motorcycling Australia to ensure the date didn’t clash with any rounds on the 2022 championship.

Upon final release of this year’s series calendar, the original date for round two was pushed back to 18-20 March, falling on the date of Falzon’s planned ceremony.

“Sitting in outright fifth, just 14 points from the lead, is not where we expected to be,” Falzon shared. “The fire in the belly just won’t let us miss round two.”

“After futile attempts to change the wedding day, it proved simply too difficult and we have opted to attempt both in the same weekend. I have managed to get a clearance in writing from my wife to be, Georgia, so we are good to go. My mum is still crying but she’ll come around!”

The logistics involved with making both possible mean Falzon will miss Saturday’s qualifying. Flying back to Queensland Sunday morning, the slightest delay means the number 25 could even miss race one.

“We should be there at about 9:30 – 9:45 am, with the race starting at 10:30,” Falzon explained to CycleOnline.com.au. “It’s all just hit and miss, if we get a headwind on the plane we will be pushing it, it’s just one of those things that we will be doing whatever we can. Even though we are starting last on the grid I still envision that we can get a few points.”

With 21 confirmed Superbike entries for this weekend, Falzon will likely have to start both 16 lap races from the seventh row of the grid.
