Simpson leads the way in ASBK Supersport on Friday

It was Olly Simpson who emerged as Supersport class leader this afternoon as the Mi-Bike Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) round opened at Queensland Raceway.

An improvement in the final Supersport session saw Simpson (Yamaha) fastest in the category on day one at 1m11.748s, edging John Lytras (Yamaha) atop the charts.

Third came Jack Hyde (Yamaha) in the 1m12s, with title favourite Tom Edwards (Yamaha) fourth and current points-leader Tom Bramich (Yamaha) completing the top five. Former champion Troy Guenther (Yamaha) made his return to national competition, P12 on Friday.

The top three in Supersport 300 consisted of Cameron Dunker, James Jacobs and Mitchell Simpson – all Yamaha-mounted – as it was Glenn Nelson, Taiyo Aksu and Dunker leading the way in the R3 Cup category.

Top of the bLU cRU Oceania Junior Cup riders on the latest YZF-R15 was talented youngster Teerin Fleming after claiming third overall at the opening round, from Ryan Larkin and Hudson Thompson today.
