Championship expected to be the opener again from next year.
Phillip Island will officially return to the Motul Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) in 2022, featuring as the final round of the season in Australia.
The round will take place between 18-20 November and marks the series’ first time at the Victorian venue since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic over two years ago.
“Everyone from the World Superbike community is keen to get back to Phillip Island and we are raring to go, so it’s great news that we’re back on the championship calendar in 2022,” commented general manager, Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, David Bennett.
“We thank Dorna and the Victorian Government for their assistance in securing the final round of 2022 for Australia and we look forward to potentially crowning the champion at Phillip Island.”
A week following the Indonesian round, this year will mark the first time in over a decade that the WorldSBK season has concluded with back-to-back events.
It will be the fourth time in the championship’s 35-year history that Phillip Island welcome the season finale – the last time being in 1996. It is expected that the Australian round will go back to its traditional slot in the calendar as the season opener from next year.
With this confirmation, it also firms the penultimate round of the Mi-Bike Australian Superbike Championship, which had previously been listed as a TBC date at Phillip Island in November. The Superbike, Supersport and Supersport 300 categories will feature.
