Set to return to Finland in 2022 for the first time in four decades, the MotoGP World Championship debut at the KymiRing has been delayed until 2023.

Provisionally scheduled as the 12th round of this year’s series on 8-10 July, the cancellation of the Finnish GP reduces the MotoGP World Championship to 20 rounds this season.

“Homologation works at the KymiRing, together with the risks caused by the ongoing geopolitical situation in the region, have sadly obliged the cancellation of the Finnish Grand Prix in 2022,” a statement from MotoGP read.

“The current circumstances have created delays and put the ongoing work at the new circuit at risk. All parties have therefore agreed that the track’s debut must be postponed to 2023, when MotoGP looks forward to returning to Finland for the first time in four decades.”

Following the first seven rounds of the 2022 championship, reigning MotoGP World champion Fabio Quartararo leads from Aleix Espargaro and Enea Bastianini. The eighth round of this year’s series commences this Friday at Mugello, Italy.
