Amidst a Misano weekend that provided its challenges for Barni Spark Racing World Supersport (WorldSSP) contender Oli Bayliss, the Australian achieved a season-best qualifying of P10 in a sign of continued progress.

Misano was the first round of the 2022 season where Bayliss had the chance to ride at the circuit prior. The teenager put that experience to good use and qualified less than a second from pole position on Saturday.

Unfortunately crashes brought an end to Bayliss’ races in San Marino, falling out of P11 in the opening bout before his second race ended when he fell at turn 14 on lap three in an incident with Unai Orradre.

“It wasn’t the best weekend for us,” Bayliss recalled. “Yesterday we completed a strong qualifying but then we didn’t finish either of the races. I’m really sorry for the team and for having involved Orradre in the crash. Now we’ll focus on making up for things at Donington.”

Following the first four rounds of his rookie WorldSSP campaign, Bayliss is 14th in the championship standings, with the next round taking place at Donington on 15-17 July.
