Starting from 30th on the grid at Misano, CIP Green Power’s Joel Kelso charged to a points-scoring position and added two more to his 2022 Moto3 World Championship campaign with P14 in San Marino.

During Saturday afternoon’s qualifying,  Kelso suffered a brake malfunction at a crucial point in the Q1 session, preventing him from reaching Q2 and limiting his grid spot.

The Australian wasted no time moving forward in Sunday’s 23-lap bout and was inside the top 20 by lap three. From there, Kelso clawed his way towards the battle for points-scoring positions, ultimately crossing the line 16.9s from race winner Dennis Foggia.

“This weekend was not the easiest,” Kelso recalled. “We were a bit unlucky in qualifying, and starting from the penultimate position, the race was not going to be easy. But we managed to take two points and we are quite satisfied. See you at the next race in Aragon.”

After missing multiple races this year due to injuries, Kelso is 22nd in the Moto3 World Championship standings as the series moves to Aragon, Spain on 16-18 September for round 15 of the season.
