It was a strong World Supersport (WorldSSP) weekend for Barni Spark Racing’s Oli Bayliss at Magny-Cours, who ran as high as fourth en route to securing his best points haul of the season.

Bayliss, 18, banked a 1m41.297s during Saturday’s Superpole to achieve his highest world championship starting position to date with P8 – .732s from poleman Federico Caricasulo (Althea Racing).

The Ducati rider went on to finish ninth in race one and eighth in race two after a great start saw him inside the top five in the early stages of the final bout. While Bayliss’ best race result so far in 2022 came at Estoril – sixth in race two – the 28 points he earned in France mark the most he has achieved from a single WorldSSP round.

“Overall, it’s been a good weekend,” Bayliss explained. “We’ve made a lot of progress over the three days. In the second race, we struggled a lot with grip, but we’ll continue to work to solve this issue. The team did a great job throughout all the sessions, providing me with a competitive bike.”

Round eight of the 2022 Supersport World Championship takes place at Catalunya on 23-25 September, with Bayliss 14th in the points standings entering the upcoming races in Spain.
