EWC champion to be CBR equipped with Miller's squad.
The 2022 Mi-Bike Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) cameo of Josh Hook will take place onboard Honda machinery, with the two-time FIM Endurance World (EWC) champion to compete alongside Jack Miller’s squad at The Bend.
Hook was contracted to Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) for 2022 and recently secured a second EWC title with F.C.C. TSR Honda France at the Bol d’Or.
Initially called in as a replacement for the injured Troy Herfoss last year, he competed at the South Australian event with Penrite Honda Racing alongside the number 17 but confirmed for 2022 he will not be lining up for the outfit.
“I won’t be riding for Penrite [Honda Racing] again this year, the reason why that came about in the past was that Troy was injured and they needed someone to ride the bike, one thing led to another,” Hook explained to CycleOnline.com.au.
“It is a great event and I live with Jack in Europe so we do talk about things quite a lot, and we both were talking about going back and doing this race and he just said, look, I’ll make a team.
“I got a bike from Honda and we are just doing it that way. He’s going to build his own… not a race team by any means, just same sort of set-up like what he had last year – just went there with a few of his mates and a couple of people who know a little bit about motorbikes and go racing and enjoy it.
“That’s more so the thought behind it at this point in time, we both really enjoyed ourselves there last year and had some fun. That’s what it is about.”
Alongside Hook in Miller’s garage will be German Moto2 racer Marcel Schroetter and Harrison Voight who is expected to race Supersport on one of Broc Pearson’s 2021 championship-winning R6s that he tested on at the start of the year.
Miller will race a Ducati for the final time in his stint with the Bologna factory when round seven of 2022 ASBK takes place on 25-27 November.
