In just his first season in the category, Senna Agius has secured second in the European Moto2 Championship following podium finishes last weekend at Aragon.

Agius, 17, returned to the JuniorGP paddock after competing in three rounds of the Moto2 World Championship as a fill-in for the injured Sam Lowes at Elf Marc VDS Racing.

The Australian secured third place on the grid for both races at round six of the European Championship and finished the opening encounter in the runner-up position after overcoming his Promo Racing teammate Xavi Cardelus in the early stages.

Race two at Aragon again saw Agius cross the line P2, marking his eighth podium of the season and maintaining his streak of standing on the rostrum in every race that he has finished in the championship this year. The 40 points gained from the weekend mean Agius has an insurmountable advantage over those riders behind him with just one race remaining in 2022.

“Challenging weekend from the beginning but satisfied with our job done today,” Agius shared. “We have secured P2 in the championship with one race left in Valencia in two weeks time. Congratulations to Lukas Tulovic on winning the championship. Thanks to the team Promo Racing for all the efforts this weekend.”

Liqui Moly Intact JuniorGP Team’s Lukas Tulovic wrapped up the 2022 European Moto2 Championship with a double victory at Aragon, as the season final takes place at Valencia on 28-30 October.
