Longtime international Billy McConnell will return to Australia and contest the remaining rounds of the 2022 Mi-Bike Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) with the 727 Moto Racing team.

McConnell has spent an extensive tenure racing in the United Kingdom, most recently competing in the British Superbikes National Superstock category this year with C&L Fairburn Properties/Jackson Racing Honda and achieving four race wins on his way to second in the championship.

The 35-year-old notably won the BSB Supersport Championship in 2014 and it is understood the opportunity to line-up with 727 Moto Racing came about through discussions with technical expert Stewart Winton while he was overseas helping Markus Chiodo.

McConnell will have the chance to test with the 727 Moto team in late October/early November at The Bend before commencing his competitive stint with the outfit at Phillip Island on 18-November – the penultimate round of this year’s ASBK.

“This is something I have been trying to do for a long time and finally the schedule has worked in our favour,” McConnell explained. “I am really looking forward to joining the 727 Moto Racing team, not only at Phillip Island but back home at The Bend, my local track. Racing on a fantastic bike in South Australia will be great.”

The announcement effectively concludes that Broc Parkes will not compete with the team this year, as McConnell joins team regular Jed Metcher for the final two rounds of the 2022 series.
