Australian teenager Levi Russo has been chosen to compete in the 2023 Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup (IATC) following the selection event in Malaysia.

Russo, 14, was one of nine riders picked to join the series next year, with fellow Australian Cameron Dunker named a reserve.

The selection event for the 2023 IATC took place on Tuesday and Wednesday at the go-kart track at the Sepang International Circuit, with 61 hopefuls displaying their talent in a bid to be chosen to contest next year’s series.

Riders went out for two sessions each, then 41 were then chosen to continue the selection process and did a further eight-minute outing.

For the final session, there were 24 riders in with a shot at joining the grid, and they did another 10-minute session. At the conclusion of the final outing, the list of riders was selected to join the grid full-time, as well as the reserve riders for 2023.

Australians competing in the 2022 Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup are Carter Thompson, Marianos Nikolis and Cameron Swain. Riders chosen from the 2023 selection event will join competitors who remain from this year’s series to form the complete IATC grid for next season.
