European Moto2 Championship revelation Senna Agius will return to the Moto2 World Championship at Valencia this weekend, filling in at the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team once more for the recovering Sam Lowes.

Agius, 17, stepped in for the British rider at the Red Bull Ring in what was his world championship debut, later competing at Misano and Aragon as Lowes continued to mend.

The Australian showed promise throughout each appearance, highlighted by top 10 potential at MotorLand and now receives the opportunity to make his fourth grand prix outing following Lowes’ withdrawal from the Malaysian GP, and subsequent competitive absence from Valencia’s final round that commences on Friday.

“I’m very happy to be given another opportunity in the Moto2 World Championship with the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team,” Agius explained. “I want to wish Sam [Lowes] all the best for his recovery in the winter and hope he is back to his best again in 2023.

“My approach to this weekend doesn’t change from the previous races we have done together. There’s a lot to learn and I’m very happy to be back working with a great crew at a unique track. My goals for the weekend are to keep progressing and finish the race in the points.

Agius has delivered a breakout year in what is his first on a Moto2 bike, finishing second in the European Championship with nine podiums and two race wins. His most recent appearance was at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, where he qualified on pole and ultimately took the chequered flag in third.
